Jaguar Low Drag E Type FIA HTP winning car
Built in 2014 by Denis Welch Motorsport
Built for Julian Thomas, founder of Race Logic whose VBox systems are found in most race cars. Julian has owned the car since then racing it with great success. The car has UK road registration (5303 VB) and new FIA HTP.
“The most successful Jaguar that Denis Welch Motorsport currently maintains
is Julian Thomas’ 1962 low-drag
E-type, which is in the workshop on the day of my visit, looking low and sleek next to the old-fashioned Healeys alongside. Thomas won the 2016 Jaguar Classic Challenge with co-driver Calum Lockie after coming first in an astounding four out of five races.”

The 2016 Jaguar Classic Challenge included a round at the 2016 Le Mans Classic. Julian Thomas took the chequered flag in his 1962 low drag Jaguar E‑type in front of a record grid of 65 cars– his second consecutive victory in the five‑race series.
In the Le Mans Classic race Julian, racing solo and in his first race at the famous circuit, moved into the lead in his low drag E-type in the second half of the 40-minute race and began to extend his lead over the field. As proof, Thomas clocked a top speed of 168.1mph during the race and eventually completed his 11th lap to take the race win.
In 2017 Julian continued to campaign with 5303 VB and highlights included 3rd place in the 26 car GTS12 class and 14th overall out of 117 starters of the Spa 6 Hour race co driven by Julian, Chris Harris and Calum Lockie.
The car qualified as the quickest E Type with a time of 2:52.93. In the race, Julian took first 2 hours and 15 minutes stint before handing over to Chris Harris who took the car to 4th overall before struggling with the basic lights in the dark. The light pod was fitted (included in the spares package) for Calum Lockie’s final stint and the car finished 14th overall and 3rd in class, the first E Type home. Chris Harris was quoted as saying “I’ve driven a number of E Types, but this is the best I have driven, a real credit to the team.”
2018 Julian and Calum Lockie were focused on winning the FIA Historic Sportscar Championship in his Chevron B8 and campaigned 5303 VB less often but still visited the podium on several occasions including Imola where the low drag finished 3rd competing with the more powerful Daytona Cobras.
2018 Imola, another podium for Julian and Calum Lockie
Julian has continued to campaign 5303 VB with further podiums, more recently at Silverstone for the GTSCC endurance race won again by Julian and Calum.
Focusing on more modern race series the car has remained at Denis Welch Motorsport and the decision was made that it was time to sell. The engine was refreshed at the end of last season by Denis Welch Motorsport, new FIA HTP issued and now the car, along with an extensive spares package (including a spare gearbox rebuilt December 2025) two spare diffs with different ratios, wheels and three large storage boxes with running spares.
The car is now offered for sale with the spares for £195,000
